Hinet ADSL Quick FAQ

Q) How does ADSL work?
A) ADSL is a new technology that allows you to use the telephone and high speed Internet simultaneously on the one phone line. The technology works on the fact that a copper phone line has a frequency range of 0 - 2.2MHz. It uses the 0 - 4kHz range for voice services (normal telephone conversations) and 20kHz - 2.2MHz for data transmission (Internet service). This massive frequency range allows data to be transferred at speeds much faster than current 56k modem services.

Q) How much does Hinet ADSL cost?
A) Check out the Hinet ADSL pricing page for Hinet ADSL cost information.

Q) Will it still tie up a phone line?
A) ADSL uses "spectrum-sharing" technology which makes it possible to use the one phone line for both making & receiving phone calls and using the Internet simultaneously. Take a look at the ADSL Technology page for a brief overview of how ADSL technology works.

Q) How fast is ADSL?
A) Currently analogue modems are capable of speeds up to 56kbps. ADSL allows you to connect to the Internet up to speeds of 1.5Mbps, which is roughly equal to 1500Kbps. This means your Internet has the potential to be 27 times faster!!!

Q) Will ADSL give me a permanent connection to the Internet?
A) Yes, like Hinet Wireless, Hinet ADSL is an 'always-on' service. This eliminates the need to dial-up to the Internet each time you want to use it, thus lowering phone costs.

Q) Do I need any new hardware?
A) Yes, you will need to purchase an ADSL modem. You may need to install an ethernet port if your machine does not already have one.
