Acceptable Usage Policy - CallerID

CallerID is used by us for the following purposes, and we will not use it for any purpose not listed here:

  • Fraud Prevention: since you cannot access our services without presenting CallerID, we always know where a phone call has come from. We may use this to detect fraud or identity theft.
  • Billing: CallerID may be used as a verification tool to establish that correct accounts are being issued.
  • Call Management: We may use CallerID to bring up information about customers when we receive calls, to better send your call to the correct department.
  • Contacting You: We may use CallerID to contact you.

CallerID Implications: There are some implications that you may not have thought of with respect to CallerID and your privacy:

  • If you explicitly block CallerID by dialling 1831, we still receive it.
  • If you dial from silent number (i.e. CallerID blocked by default), we still receive it.
  • We will never tell you what CallerIDs your account has been accessed from.
  • If you provide us with a list of 'your' numbers, we are authorised to tell you:
    • "The account has only been accessed from within your list"
    • "The account has been accessed from numbers that are not on the list"
Any other information (e.g. what those non-list numbers actually are) is only obtainable by complying with s.282 of the Telecommunications Act (this is usually in the form of a Warrant issued to the Police).
