The Magnificat - Mary's song 6. The Man God Chose: - From the prophet Isaiah . . . 'the song of the suffering servant' as if he could be among us today. 7. Black Is: - setting of poem by Aboriginal writer, Maureen Watson 8. Window Watching Me: A little song about reflections and vanity. 9. The Rich Man Blues - A scathing hilarious critique of wealth and materialism, by Robin Mann 10. Out The Window - A novelty song of twisted nursery rhymes. Kids love it. 11. Gypsies and Pilgrims: - Travelling round Australia in a camper-van . . . the Australian pilgrimage 12. Song For Billy: - The story of a gentle, sensitive man with a beautiful sense of humour who turns to alcohol to escape a callous world 13. Soulfriend: - Combining prayer and the blues. 14. Somewhere Between: - A great song by Malvina Reynolds: "On Monday I think I'm a sinner; on Tuesday I think I'm a saint. On Wednesday I don't know what I am but I know that a saint I ain't." 15. Martha And Mary: - Two sisters - two sides of each one of us - the active and the reflective 16. In A Little While: - just for fun 17. The Story We Share: - "The story is mine, the story is ours - if we open our ears we can hear a story that grows with the passing of years made of our laughter, struggle and fears." NSW Folk Federation Newsletter In this live recording, Peter Kearney is joined is joined by his band 'Crossover'. Members include Helen Archer - vocals; Claire Parkhill - vocals and recorder; Lindsay Martin - fiddle, mandolin and Max Burgess - double bass. It is often difficult to catch the intimacy and immediacy of the relationship with the audience in a 'live' recording, but on the whole, Peter and Crossover carry it off. The quality of the recording is not diminished and we are even admitted to the concert to the point of being told interval is coming up and being invited share in a cup of tea or coffee. (Perhaps while we are turning the tape over.) The format is tight without being obviously so, and even those songs which come across well live but often die on a recording - songs of frivolity like 'Wee Tot' and 'Out The Window' work well. Humour is used in other songs to make a point eg. 'Rich Man Blues written by South Aussie, Robin Mann. Listen for Helen Archer's big, brassy voice on this one- it's hard to miss. Also in this categories is Malvina Reynold's 'Somewhere Between'. Here gentle fun is had at the expense of would-be plaster saints. "On Monday I think I'm a sinner; on Tuesday I think I'm a saint. On Wednesday I don't know what I am but I know that a saint I ain't." Some of the more poetical works capture a real pathos. One feels with Billy, the deceased alcoholic brother of Peter's wife Madge in 'Song For Billy', the story of a gentle, sensitive man with a beautiful sense of humour who turns to alcohol to escape a callous world . . . "now the angels laugh too . . . " Three of the songs on the album were
first presented on 'Turn It All Around' which brought to a Christian
audience the need to be concerned with social justice . The final song 'The
Story We Share' perhaps best sums it all up with its gentle invitation to
come join the story . . . "the story is mine, the story is ours- if we open
our ears we can hear a story that grows with the passing of years made of

This is a different line-up to the 'Crossover' Group involved in the 'Signs Of Hope' album. All members were musicians and singers from Peter's home area, the Southern Highlands, NSW.
